Happy, happy Friday! I’m trying something new today; in lieu of my typical “5 things I love” monthly post, I’m going to be sharing a quick snapshot of what I’m loving a little more often. In the beginning, I’ll probably do this every other Friday or so, to give you a glimpse of what I’m up to and what’s inspiring me.
Root vegetables. Liiiike in this salad. I think that means I have a quinoa salad for every season, now, don’t I? There’s something so nourishing and filling about root vegetables, especially in the winter. (My favorite at the moment is parsnips. Mmmmm.)
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Ever since re-reading The Hunger Games in December for the third time, I’ve been hunting for a good page-turner. Finally, I found it. This one is a gripping story that takes place in WWII Germany, narrated by death. Unique and fascinating. (Also, I just learned it’s also a movie. So…apparently I never go to movies.)
Starting my spring cleaning, easy + early. Remember this post from last year? It remains one of my personal top 5 favorite posts of all time because it tackles a traditionally tough task—seasonal deep-cleaning and decluttering—with zero effort, other than to just stop buying stuff. Which leaves cash in your wallet. Tell me why you’re not doing this, too.
Get started now (which means, “buy fewer groceries”) so clearing out the fridge, freezer and pantry come spring will be a breeze and a half.
Slow winter. January has turned into an extension of the break I took in December. As I mentioned in this post, it has felt so easy and natural to ease up from my regular obligations and give myself a rest, that I’ve really started to sink into it. Lots of time reading above mentioned book in the bathtub, and cuddling on the couch with my honey. As the days are getting longer, I’m starting to thaw into a more active schedule, but not too active. Ahhhh.

June from the squeaky kitchen ordered a vintage metal tray and some tarnished metal saucers from my shop, and she’s been using them as photo props for her mouth-watering recipes like Orange Poppyseed Muffins and Grapefruit and Carrot Juice. It’s so fun to see my Rosy Blu babies out in the wild. (And yummmmmm, isn’t June’s photography divine?)
- Hubby got me a FitBit for my 30th birthday, and I love it. Plus, I’m tracking my fluid intake and trying to drink 60 ounces a day, which means I’m peeing all the time. But it’s good for me. More steps, you know? (TMI! Oops.)
- My nephew (11 months) learned how to stand this week, and my sister sent a video of it. He’s wearing a cape. It is amazing, and I could watch and re-watch his videos all day long.
- I’m so very excited for my Learn to Cook Without Measuring workshop, which happens in 6 days. Are you signed up? It’s free, and it’s going to be awesome.
- If you need a Valentine for your honey (or want to bake some heart shaped treats for the occasion), check out the Valentine’s Day section of the Rosy Blu Etsy shop! Orders placed by Friday, February 7 will arrive by the holiday (or February 11 for Priority Mail).
I’d love to hear what you think of the new format!
