Allow me to present a new regular feature on the blog, in which I will give you a little peek into my brain by showing you five different things that I just can’t get enough of right at this moment. Links, videos, recipes, books…anything, really, that inspires me and makes me happy. I plan to make it a monthly post, and it will allow us to get to know one another better.
Without further ado, here is what I am loving in April!
1. My new recipe for roast chicken
I was reading A Million Ways to Roast a Chicken over at the Kitchn, because I had a whole raw chicken in my fridge today, and used Sara Kate’s tweet to make up a little rub this afternoon:
Make it a million and one ways, because this tweet inspired a delicious little spinoff. I used chili powder (because I read it wrong, honestly, but I don’t regret it), and left out the lemon zest because I didn’t have any….then added garlic powder because it sounded good. Roasted the bird over potatoes and onions, and holy buckets, it tasted amazing. The spice rub made the most delicious juices for the veggies to absorb in the bottom of the pan. After we ate dinner, Jon went upstairs, and I stood over the stove eating every last bit of potato and onion left in the pan because it was just. that. good.
Shortest recipe ever! It makes me feel like I should join Twitter, if I can find more gems like this.
2. Cute little kid makes an arcade with cardboard boxes
Arcade? What? On Rosy Blu Handmade? Before you tell me this is way off-topic, check out what this little boy made, and tell me that’s not creativity and made-from-scratch fun at its finest. And, um, I dare you to not cry.
A 9-year-old boy builds an arcade in his dad’s auto parts store using cardboard boxes. He thought of everything, and his system of using calculators for security (3:10) is the most ingenious use of the square root button I’ve ever seen. Then the arcade gets flash mobbed. And because it’s so popular on the interwebs, this little boy has already had $82,000 raised for his scholarship fund. Seriously, I love everything about this story.

3. Massages
My husband just gave me a neck massage, which made my headache go away. The massage ended with…a head squeeze (I know what you were thinking, dirty bird! Get your mind out of the gutter). If you’ve never had someone squeeze your head as hard as they can, you are missing out on a delightful sensation and I highly recommend you try it. There’s something about that nice pressure on the compact muscles around your skull…it’s like the squeeze is just what you’ve been waiting for, and it’s a surprising relief for a tired head.
Plus, I have a one-hour professional massage scheduled for 9am tomorrow. Luckiest girl in the world? Maybe.
4. Gardening!
I’m still not over my gardening obsession, and just added more fuel to the fire with two illustrated gardening books picked up for next to nothing at a used book sale. One was written by Reader’s Digest (and apparently has glowing reviews!) and the other is much older but full of hints and tips that are just what I’m in the mood for reading this week. The only gardening book I had before focused on herbs only, so I’m excited to expand my reading reference materials to flowers and vegetables too.
5. God bless goats
I stole the title for this section from my friend Jenny, on whose Facebook wall I found this delightful little video which never does get old. I’ve watched it over and over, and they just make me so damn happy. I want you to be this damn happy, too. The last 2 seconds…I wish it lasted forever. So I watch it again.
