I make no secret of the fact that Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book. I have all of Jane Austen’s books, and love them dearly, but this one tops them all. If I had to guess how many times I’ve read it, it would be somewhere in the twenties. It’s one of the only books I never get sick of, I can read it like watching my favorite movie over and over again.
I own 3 copies of it (two cheap paperbacks, and one old version that my brother found for me in a used bookstore). And I have a compilation of all Jane Austin’s books, so I guess that makes 4.
I cannot be without this book for any period of time…and it’s nice to have an extra to lend out from time to time. But ever since the Penguin Classics fancy hardcover version came out a couple years ago, I’ve had it in the back of my mind. And on my Wish List board on Pinterest. Unnecessary, I know, since I have it already…but it’s so pretty.
Well, I was clicking some links on that board this week….and it was on CLEARANCE at Anthropologie for less than five bucks! Done and DONE. (I must have snagged one of the last copies, because the store is sold out of them now).
It’s so beautiful. I’m going to read it right away.
Again.
(Of course.)
In fact, I’m already halfway through.
After that, I haven’t decided which room it will live in, but it will be permanently on display. There are at least three rooms in my home where it would look just darling. I love the cheery yellow. And the birds. And the fact that it’s filled with the wonderfully romantic tale of Lizzy and Mr. Darcy. And Mr. Darcy’s first name is Fitzwilliam. And Mr. Collins makes me laugh. And cringe. So does Mrs. Bennet. And it has a happy ending, every time I read it. And the story is now so familiar, it’s become comforting to read time after time, just pure joy.
Oh, me. How I love Jane Austen.
