I used to buy taco seasoning packets just like everybody else.
Never again, my friends. This is just too easy.
The recipe below is the result of picking and choosing favorite flavors from half a dozen different recipes for taco seasoning. Lots of onion and chili powder, some smoky cumin, extra red pepper flakes because me and Jon like some heat in our tacos…garlic powder, because I can never have enough, and some oregano, salt and pepper.
It’s as good as any packet mix you could throw at me; better, in fact, because when I want more, I just add more. No need to rip open another packet…those days are over.
This recipe is the perfect amount to fill a half pint mason jar. Dump it all in, mix it together, and you’re set! Two tablespoons of this mix is roughly equivalent to a packet of taco seasoning which can be used in any number of dinners:
- Season hamburger or chicken for tacos (obviously)
- Season a bean dip for taco chips
- You can never go wrong with seven layer taco dip at a party
- Spice up your guacamole when you’re in a hurry
