1. My kind of fairy tales
My new favorite book (and might I recommend, a dynamite gift idea for 20- or 30-something friends!) is Alice in Tumblr-Land. If you follow me on Facebook, you’ve probably seen some of my favorite fairy tale snapshots already. Get a sneak peek on Tim’s blog here.
After my brother finishes reading it, this book will live on the nightstand in our guest room, to delight and amuse our guests when I’m not reading it myself.
2. A change in home decor
Ahhh, December is so magical. I love decorating the house for the Christmas—partly for the fun and tradition of pulling out my favorite holiday decor, but also because it’s a nice, natural break from the beloved things I see and use all year round. As I pull out my holiday treasures like stockings, ornaments, wooden shoes and mistletoe, I refill the box with the items that normally grace the shelves, which will rest for a month while I enjoy something else. Next month when I pack away the holiday ornaments again, I’ll pull out my everyday favorites with a fresh perspective. It’s a great opportunity to change things up a little bit and experience renewed appreciation for what I have.
3. Red Caboose Christmas Trees
Speaking of Christmas decor, we got our tree this year at the sweetest tree farm you ever did see. Aside from being family-owned and having a bunch of awesome trees (naturally), they also have a strip of railroad track in the yard with an adorable red caboose. Inside, you will find hot cider and cookies. It is quite magical, and if you’re in the Winona area, I highly recommend a little trip out there. (Added bonus: Our tree does not have any nests on it this year. We triple-checked.)
4. Milk + Honey baths
A friend lent me her copy of Organic Body Care Recipes by Stephanie Tourles, and I was quite taken with the idea of a milk and honey bath. Mix a cup of half & half or cream with half a cup of honey, and pour it in your bath for soft and silky skin (plus, it feels like the most luxurious bath you’ve ever had, girl scout’s honor).
If you want more ideas for ways to have a luxurious bath, come right this way . . . I happen to be a connoisseur.
5. Pomegranates
I’ve been snacking on pomegranates lately. It feels like the ultimate festive food that is also healthy at the same time. Plus, I know how to properly cut them open now.
