Two years ago today, Jon and I were on the final stretch before our wedding day. Lists were made, venders were booked, food ordered, attire pressed and ready, and we were eagerly awaiting all the company arriving for the big day.
In celebration of our 2-year anniversary coming up, it’s Wedding Week here on Rosy Blu. What follows is part 1 of 2, in which I will show you the magical events that comprised our wedding. Part one is the ceremony; part two is the reception, which took place a few nights later at a local park on the Mississippi river. There will also be a DIY project for you on Wednesday!
Buckle up, folks. This is about to be the longest post I’ve ever published. (But don’t worry, it’s mostly pictures.)
Jon and I were married on a beautiful Thursday evening with our families and close friends at a vineyard on top of a bluff. The weather couldn’t have been better. And I never really appreciated just how beautiful it was up there until our wedding day.
We all met in the winery shortly before the ceremony to be adorned with flowers.
Here’s my mom and my soon-to-be hubby.
My daddy walked me down the aisle.
This pair of pictures makes me laugh. The officiant came to the part about exchanging rings, so Jon reached out to take my ring. She slapped his hand away, and scolded him, saying “Not yet!” (Look how cross she is in the second picture!) We must not rush these things, apparently. But it was all better when she let me kiss him at the end.
Right here at this moment, I forgot about everything else. I didn’t remember ever being so happy in my life, and could only think how wonderful it all was. For a minute, I’m pretty sure I had a bewildered look on my face, because I literally had no idea what was supposed to happen now. Jon had to remind me that next was the part where we both walk back down the aisle. Oh, that.
We got to do lots more smooching during the picture taking time.
This one became our holiday card (family and friends, remember that?).
Carrying on the tradition on my dad’s side of the family, I carried a string of my Grandma Berta’s pearls in my bouquet.
Yours truly made the wedding cake! White cake with green and orange swirls, topped with butter cream frosting. Mmmmm…..
I regret that this is the only picture we have at dinner. It was absolutely breathtaking and so much fun…kicked off with toasts, followed by delicious Italian food, including tortellini alla panne and chicken parmesean. And wine, of course. (Of course!)
After dinner, we spent the evening drinking and laughing on the patio, with this as our backdrop.
Now you will feel no rain,
for you will each be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other.
You are two people, but there
is one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place
to enter into the days of your togetherness
and may your days be good and
long upon the earth.
(Closing blessing during our ceremony, an Apache wedding prayer)
Hope you enjoyed Part 1! Stay tuned for the rest of the party later this week!
Photos: I give enormous credit to my two photographers for the photos in this post and the next – Angie Suntken and my big sister and maid of honor Marni Mattner. You can view a few more photos from the ceremony on Marni’s website. How one bride got lucky enough to get two incredible photographers, I’ll never know…but thanks ladies, you knocked it out of the park!
