I may have just made up a word, but “unkillable” is the best description I can think of for my favorite houseplant.
And although I love to garden, and I love the living presence of houseplants in my home, I don’t like many types of houseplants. Because for whatever reason, living plants inside my home tend to get a little neglected. Which, more often than not, can lead to their death. (Which does not make nice decor.)
If you are a brown thumb like me when it comes to houseplants, you should consider getting a Jade plant to keep you company.
Here is why I like them:
1) Jade plants thrive on neglect.
They like to be left alone for a while, then flooded with water. Which is how I like to treat my houseplants, apparently.
2) You can easily make more, like magic.
Like other succulents, Jade plants can be propagated with cuttings. This means that you can chop off a 3-4″ piece of your existing plant, plop it in a well-watered pot of soil, and it will grow roots there. BOOM. Two plants. This also works with just one leaf of the plant. Check out the pot below: one of the leaves fell off the mother plant, so I popped in in this little pink pot. That was a couple months ago–as you can see below, a new little plant has grown up beside the original leaf that I planted. Cool, eh?
There you have it, my favorite unkillable houseplant. What’s your favorite houseplant?
