Last week I told you about the Pinterest Challenge I read about on Young House Love. In case you missed it, I will sum up: A bunch of bloggers said, hey, let’s do something that we pinned on Pinterest and all share it next Wednesday!
That’s the just kind of bandwagon I love to hop on, and today, you get to see the fruits of my labor.
There you have it! I combined the idea behind two pins into something brand new for my already wonderful sewing room, and I must say, it’s just the thing. It’s a cheery and welcoming addition to the room, and I like that it gives a person a reason to gaze up.
I also have some flag bunting made from vintage sheets hanging from the same windowsill, which complements the new HELLO very nicely.
I have been mulling over this project for several months. You can see my inspiration here; originally I was looking for wooden letters, but they always seemed to be too expensive. I finally found some paper mache letters at Hobby Lobby for just $2.47 each. I used a thrifted pillowcase for the flowery fabric (fifty cents at Salvation Army) and picked up a can of orange spray paint to match the fabric. The whole project cost less than $15, and it was super easy.
I spray painted the letters outside this weekend when we had some gorgeous weather, then traced the letters on fabric, cut them out and used Mod Podge to put them on the cardboard letters.
My absolute favorite part about this little DIY project was completely unintended. I propped the letters on the window frame where I thought they looked the best, and realized afterwards that I get a perfect little glimpse of them every time I walk up the stairs.
Leave a comment if you did a project this weekend, too–I’d love to see it!
