Roundup: Ease-y ways to celebrate summer

June 21, 2017 by Michelle 2 Comments

I love summer. I live in Minnesota, where the seasons change drastically from one to the next…and summer is the one where I come alive. The sun comes out, the air gets warm, and when everything around you is blooming, vibrant and lush, it’s easy for that energy to rub off on you.

I’ve written a lot of posts celebrating summer over the years. Today, for your reading pleasure, I’ve collected some of my favorites that are worth a re-visit. You’ll find some of the same ideas peppered throughout these posts—those are my absolute favorite seasonal delights, like bread salad, sun tea and a multitude of ways to bask in sunshine and green grass.

Hopefully you’ll be inspired to enjoy the season in a new way, or schedule time to take part in some of your own seasonal favorites!

My favorite delicious + easy summer dinners

Featuring grilled garlic bread salad; pasta with prosciutto, mint and peas; buffalo chicken sandwiches in the crock pot and fancy grilled cheese with bruschetta. Bonus recipe that could be on that post but isn’t: summer quinoa salad with peaches and veggies. I’ve been craving this lately!

10 simple ways to celebrate summer

These are some of my own simple summer rituals that allow me to really soak in the season—from going to the beach, to walking barefoot in the grass, to bringing the outdoors in.

9 tips for summer glamping (glamour + camping)

If my husband had his way, camping food would equal hot dogs and only hot dogs. Good thing he doesn’t get his way. This is the post where I share all my favorite tips to make your next camping experience just a little more comfortable in all the right ways. Including THE best camping breakfast I’ve ever had (and you can make it ahead of time!)

Saving summer flavors: flash freezing 101

It’s an exciting time at the farmer’s market. Food flavors are at their peak when they are harvested, and you can’t always use that bounty right away. I love to flash freeze food—like berries, bananas and peaches, for example—when they’re ripe and juicy, so I can pull them out enjoy them all year long. This method allows you to freeze them so they’re not all in one frozen hunk, which means you can pull out only what you need. (In case you need a refresher, here’s how + why to buy your produce in season.)

The time is NOW for your summer bucket list!

This is a post I wrote in late July one year, when I realized nearly two whole months of summer had flown by almost without recognition. I like to revisit it early each summer ever since, to remind me of all the things I don’t want to regret not having done, later.

Smoothies 101: My formula for a delicious smoothie

I share this post for three reasons. First, produce is in bountiful supply as mentioned above, which makes for a particularly delectable smoothie. Second, summer is swimsuit weather, and smoothies are slimming, wouldn’t you agree? And last, pour leftover smoothie into a  freezer mold and voila! Popsicles. God bless the world.

Fresh fruit. I love this month.

That’s all from me! What are the things you look forward to doing every summer? Leave a note in the comments!
